Scavino Paolo

Italy Piedmont Castiglione Falletto

Founded in 1921 by Lorenzo, first generation, and Paolo Scavino, second generation, in the Barolo Langhe township of Castiglione Falletto, the family estate is now under the direction of Enrico and his two daughters Enrica and Elisa. The Scavino family owns 29 hectares entirely in the Barolo area and works on 20 Barolo historical vineyards located in Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, La Morra, Novello, Serralunga d’Alba, Verduno and Roddi.

The Scavino family distinguishes itself from the beginning by their scrupulous care of the vineyards and passion for terroir. Their core beliefs is the supremacy of the viticulture above the oenology therefore the focus is the care of the vines in order to grow ripe and healthy grapes. In winemaking minimal and equal intervention are sought, to preserve natural diversities, terroir.

The eleven townships that comprise the Langhe region are known for their prestigious Barolo of which this estate is no exception. Entry level reds begin with the Vino Rosso (a blend from the younger estate’s vine of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Merlot), the Langhe Nebbiolo, the Dolcetto and Barbera d’Alba and move up to higher end Barolos. The Scavino family produces not only impressive red wines but also a unique white wine, the Langhe “Sorriso” (40% Chardonnay, 40% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Viognier).

The Scavino winery is unique in their possession of grand cru’s in seven of the eleven villages in Barolo. This diversity of terroir gives the Scavino family the opportunity to produce extraordinary wines at magnificent quality. The Scavino family is convinced that there is a tie with the territory, with nature, with the changing of seasons, and with the changing of vintages. They have been able to combine innovation with tradition pursuing purity of expression and elegance for their wines.
