Laval Georges

France Champagne Cumières

This small 2.5 hectar estate located in Cumires (Premier Cru) is known, above all, among Champagne connoisseurs.

Vincent Laval has run the estate since 1996, continually producing pure, accurate and expressive wines with Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. He aims more than anything to make a Champagne able to enhance the Cumires soil’s minerality.

Laval sits among the pioneer of organic viticulture in the Champagne region. Neither pesticides nor weed killers are employed in the cultivation. To let the terroir express all its potential, the fruit coming from each small plot is vinified individually in small oak barrels. Fermentation occurs thanks to indigenous yeasts and dosage is always very low.

Every single detail of either organic grape growing or the painstaking winemaking gets along with each other making this crafted Champagne an expression of deep intensity, integrity, succulence and clear taste. Laval makes only 10000 bottles in best vintages; the production is quickly bought by a small crowd of enthusiasts. People who have a chance of laying a hand on one bottle are richly rewarded.

The Champagne Cumires Brut Nature Premier Cru Non Dosé is made with 57% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Meunier and 33% Pinot Noir, all from old vines. It matures in oak barrels, aging in the bottle at least three years before disgorgement. It is a wine displaying rare complexity, a clear, mature and accurate bouquet.

The palate is generous, round, compelling, marked by a strong fruity taste.
