Serafino Rivella

Italy Piedmont Barbaresco

Rivella Serafino is a cult producer of Barbaresco located in the historic Montestefano cru.

The vineyard was planted in 1963 by Teobaldo Rivella’s father, and the first vintage produced at the estate was 1967. Teobaldo's Montestefano parcel is next to his house, so he treats it lika a little garden, meticulously tended, together with his lovely wife Maria.

Since the beginning, the vineyards have also been farmed organically.
The wines of Teobaldo are unabashedly ‘old-school’ in the best sense.
The wine is vinified in stainless-steel and partially in Slavonian oak for 20-25 days using wild yeast. Then it is matured in old Slavonian botte (big oval shaped oak barrels) for about 24 – 36 months, which is over twice as long as the legal requirement for Barbaresco.

Their production from only two hectares of vineyards is so small that manual bottling, labelling and cork closing machines are used in the small workshop cum winery.

Rivella’s tiny cellar produces less tha 6000 bottles of Barbaresco Montestefano every year.
The Tobaldo's wines are sought out by the most serious and passionate Piedmont lovers!
