Rosso Giovanni

Italy Piedmont Serralunga d'Alba

Even if the family Rosso has owned vineyards in Serralunga for more than a century, the company Giovanni Rosso was founded only in 1995, when the young Davide Rosso took the reins of the family Estate.

Davide is a young and talented wine maker, educated in Burgundy with famous producers such as Domaine Jean Grivot and Denis Mortet. He adopted a fresh and natural approach to his wine that he produces starting from the 12 hectares of vineyards in La Serra, Cerretta, Broglio, Meriame, Sorano, Costa Bella, Lirano e Damiano Crus of Serralunga. The vineyards are managed naturally, without using pesticides nor herbicides.

Fermentation takes place thanks to indigenous yeast in concrete vats, without controlling the temperature. The ageing instead, takes place in French oak barrels. This is considered as a different approach compared to the traditional method of wine making that prefers Slavonian oak casks.

Recently Davide inherited from his father a part of the very famous vineyard in Serralunga, Vigna Rionda. From this vineyard, he produces a limited number of bottles of Barolo, intended to become part of the history of its denomination.

“Founded in 1890, the estate has recently become one of the brightest emerging stars in Barolo.  Owner Davide Rosso studied winemaking in France and is taking the wines to a new level: all his wine speak clearly of Serralunga.....Rosso's first vintage (2011) of his Tommasso Canale cuvee from the Vigna Rionda cru will also be released soon.  This is sparking great excitement among Barolo aficionados as the cru is considered by many to be Barolo's greatest.” Decanter magazine, April 2015
