Fratelli Alessandria is one of Piedmont’s under-the-radar jewels. The Alessandrias make compelling, classically-built wines from estate vineyards in Verduno and Monforte d’Alba. Best of all, the wines remain very reasonably priced by today’s standards. Readers who enjoy structured, age-worthy Barolos won’t want to be without these wines.
Nowadays the owners of the company are Gian Battista, his wife Flavia, his brother Alessandro and his son Vittore. They are proud witnesses of the old tradition and of the passion for wine production of the family.
Alessandria family produce Barolo in Verduno since 1800.
Vittore represents the fifth generation and he started working with his father in 2001.Since his arrival he worked on the creation of more wines 'terroir-led' with less interventions both in vineyards and in the cellar.
The estate is made up by 12 hectars. The production is arround 60000 bottles per year.
Their lands are situated between Verduno and Monforte. Their most important crus are Monvigliero and San Lorenzo in Verduno (white and calcareous soils and 30-years old vineyards) and Gramolare in Monforte (soils loamy and sandy andh 40-years old vineyards)
Pelaverga 'Speziale' deserves attention. It is a spicy and strong wine from the omonimous vineyard.
Fratelli Alessandria style is traditional: slow macerations and aging in barrels (30/40 hl). The result is didattic and classic wines.
