Type Red Vintage 2014 Region Piedmont Producer Brezza Wine Advocate - Wine Spectator -

In ancient times the area we're now considering was called Salmassa, probably because of the presence of source of brackish water.

Wines from this area are better in dry years: in fact, the greater percentage of clay and silt ensures greater water retention, resulting in less stress on the part of the vines that live in this land.

The winemaking process is very similar to the one used fot other wines of Brezza production; the only difference is in the time of maceration: for Barolo Salmassa it is generally superior as the grapes normally have softer tannins.
Barolo from this vineyards is ready to be drink and elegant.

Bulwark of traditional producers in the Langhe, Barolo lovers know that Enzo Brezzs wine are always a certainty. Brezza company, owner of vineyards in Barolo since 1885, is located a few steps from the center of the small town of Barolo.

The company philosophy consists in producing single-vine wines taking care of the vineyard with appropriate pruning and careful thinning, practicing the use of green manure and composting to enhance the vitality of the soil.

Light processing, temperature control and spontaneous fermentation. The aging of those wines, that is necessary, is traditional, in large Slavonian oak barrels, with the staves bent (with the help of fire) but not roasted. Wines that are aged in wood are neither filtered nor clarified.

The company is being conducted in certified organic agriculture by the fourth generation.
