Type Red Vintage 2009 Region Burgundy Producer Domaine Ponsot Wine Advocate - Wine Spectator - Available: 1

"The 2009 Clos de la Roche Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is round, sweet and totally enveloping. It is a huge, towering Burgundy that impresses for its gorgeous inner perfume and juicy, exuberant fruit. This shows tons of richness without being heavy or overripe in any way." RobertParker.com

"This set of 2009s from Laurent Ponsot was among the finest I tasted. The wines are simply dazzling from top to bottom. Ponsot was among the last to harvest in 2009, essentially starting when most, if not all, of his colleagues already had the fruit in their cellars. The fruit was 100% destemmed and the wines were vinified in oak vats. There is no new oak at Ponsot. The barrels range from 5 to 50 years of age. I tasted all of the 2009s from barrel, where they had been aging since finishing their malolactic fermentations." RobertParker.com

____

Ponsot is a producer who adamantly believes that great wines are made in the vineyard, not the cellar: a fact that seems more and more to be a hallmark of true greatness and quality. Laurent Ponsot uses as little herbicide as possible to avoid infecting the soil with chemicals and harvests later than the norm in order for his grapes to reach maximum ripeness.

Clos de la Roche is one of the four Grands Crus in Morey-St Denis and is renowned for great structure and density in its wines, which often require exended ageing in bottle to soften. 2009 was an excellent red Burgundy vintage across all vineyards – from the most famous to the most humble – it was big on quantity and quality.
