___

The Rocca family bought the first parcel in the sought-out Rabajà; Cru in Barbaresco in late ‘50s, detatching itself from the once common tenant farming system.
At first, Bruno a career in the Ferrero confectionery company marketing department.
When his father, Francesco, died in 1978, taking over him in running the estate, Bruno decided that time had come to bottle the family production, until then sold to other wineries.
The estate’s holdings are made up of 15 hectars in Barbaresco, from which are sourced the Barbaresco Rabajà and the Dolcetto d’Alba, and several plots in prime sites in Neive, where Nebbiolo, Barbera and Chardonnay are grown. Three further hectars were bought in Vaglio Serra in Monferrato district, which is house to the best Barberas.
Grapegrowing is sustainable, no chemicals are employed; leguminous plants are sowed between the rows.
The wines’ style conveys the continuous research aimed at reaching the best quality, reflecting the terroir and the winemaker’s personality. Experimentation concerns vinification technique and technology as well as maturation.
Bruno does not like to be marked as a ‘modernist’, due to the concentration he seeks to his wines and his preference for small french barrels. “I have my own style, I had once been criticised, fews critics felt at ease with it. But I did not give up. I make a few bottles, bought by loyal customers. All I have to do is not betraying them”, says Bruno, “it is dreadfully easy!”.
