The Cascina delle Rose 2019 Rio Sordo is an absolute stunner, boasting precision and a pristine quality that keeps you wanting more. Fragrant and radiant, it opens with enticing scents of violet, rose, perfumed berry, star anise, new leather and menthol. Seamlessly combining finesse and structure, the vibrant, youthfully austere palate delivers crushed red cherry, white pepper, licorice and blood orange set against a backbone of fine-grained tannins while a hint of almost salty mineral lingers on the close. The 2019 Barbaresco Rio Sordo is a gorgeous, beguiling wine. Rose petal, mint, macerated cherry, spice, incense and orange peel lend an exotic flair that is quite appealing. The aromatics are quite pretty, but the tannins suggest a few years of cellaring will be hugely beneficial.
